Spring Driving Accidents

As spring and summer approach, the number of road transportation accidents greatly increase as well. Since there are a higher number of vehicles on the road, naturally the statistics that lead to collisions driving from home, work, or other varying places people visit on a daily basis also increase.

Teenager-Based Accidents

Unfortunately, once spring kicks off, more teenagers take up the road causing a rise in accidents. Mainly due to lack of experience and judgment, not to mention peer pressure, teenagers usually are the main culprits in fender benders and larger scale accidents around the country. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have shown that August is the most dangerous month for teen drivers. Although most teen drivers may only suffer minor injuries from crashing their vehicles, the wounds they inflict on other passengers and drivers last a lifetime. Not to mention, most crashes can cause extensive property damage which can lead to increased deductibles and a poorly reflected driving history. Believe it or not, collisions in the spring cost billions of dollars every year due to the extreme amount of drivers – and the chance of collisions happening nearly triple under the age of 20. Drivers between the ages of 15 through 20 have the highest fatality percentage than any other age group, with the leading cause being distraction. Even if a teen driver does cause a small accident, it may be enough to require a consultation with a personal injury lawyer, which may seriously cripple their personal record as well as their driving history.

Driving With Distractions

States all around the country report hundreds of accidents a year with millions in property damages alone. Although some states have instituted rules to help reduce injuries and collisions in the busiest driving season of the year, it’s important to keep teens knowledgeable on how distracted driving can seriously affect them. After all, nearly 10 percent of drivers that cause collisions in which lives were lost were single-handedly caused due to distracted driving at the time behind the wheel. One of the biggest factors behind distracted driving is texting while driving, which can always be a dangerous situation for anyone.

Tips for Limiting Injuries and Accidents

One of the best ways to reduce the number of accidents on the roads is to be sure you are practicing safe driving. In order to remain safe, consider following these tips: Always wear a seat belt. In the event of an accident, a seat belt will prevent you from getting seriously injured. Drive slowly and pay close attention to your surroundings and the road ahead. Even the best driver can get into a car accident. Listen to the traffic report to know where there are delays and heavy congestion.

Police Patrol

With the beginning of the warmer weather, law enforcement officials are often patrolling the streets in larger numbers. People are more likely to be going out and enjoying themselves in the nice weather. This also largely impacts the season’s teenage driver collision statistics. School is almost out and more kids are out on the roads. Police officers are out on the roads checking to see if people are wearing their seatbelts and checking their driver’s licenses. There are also more DUI checkpoints. Drunk driving becomes more of an issue in the warmer months. Catching these drivers before they harm themselves or anybody else is vital. Law enforcement officials also send out more patrol cars on highways and roads to watch for any unlawful activity. They often observe drivers, looking closely for any illegal actions. Officers will also check license plates for outstanding tickets or out of date car registrations.

Memorial Day Weekend Traveling

According to the American Automobile Association, the number of cars on the road traveling over Memorial Day weekend in 2016 was the highest it has been since 2005. More than 33 million drivers in America had traveled more than 50 miles during this holiday weekend. There are a number of factors that contribute to this fact. Gas prices are lower, which means more people are traveling out of state to visit family and friends. Plus, with the improved state of the economy, more teenagers are able to afford to drive.   Since 2005, vehicle fatalities have gone down considerably. Back then, more than 43,000 deaths were reported. In 2014, the number of deaths was reportedly as low as 32,000. These figures were determined by the United States Department of Transportation. More than half of these deaths happen during the summer months, from April to late September.
